Greenpeace's survey in the past four months found that Clothing and shoes Nonylphenol polyoxyethylene ether (NPE) was used in the production process.

Shortly after the publication of this survey, adidas Group issued a statement on harmful substances in clothing. The statement said that four of the nine adidas products tested this time contained NPE. However, adidas insists that the company has always strictly adhered to the standard of 100 ppm NPE concentration, which is the best measure implemented in the industry; Nike Group also issued a statement saying that it will continue to work closely with relevant government departments to ensure that all products sold in China fully comply with Chinese regulations and standards. Li Ning also made a similar statement. However, these 10 companies did not mention whether they would recall NPE products. comprehensive

NPE detected by several well-known Chinese and foreign brands

Between April and May this year, Greenpeace purchased 78 samples of 15 clothing brands in 18 countries around the world, including China, the United Kingdom, Argentina, and other countries, with 13 producing countries, including China and Thailand. Greenpeace sent these samples to a qualified third-party laboratory for testing. Among the 78 samples sampled, 28 samples were produced in China, of which 19 samples contained NPE, including Adidas, Li Ning, Nike CK、 Converse Kappa、 Crocodile AF、 14 brands including Puma, Uniqlo and Youngor. Among 19 samples containing NPE, brands containing more than 500 mg NPE per kg include Li Ning AF、 Nike and Youngor. Among them, the NPE content of an AF denim shorts is as high as 1100 mg/kg, the NPE content of a sports shirt of Li Ning and Youngor is 680 mg/kg and 530 mg/kg, and the NPE content of two Nike T-shirts is 810 mg/kg and 660 mg/kg respectively.

According to Zhang Kai, the project director of Greenpeace, this report is the official investigation report of Greenpeace. Our testing party is an international laboratory with certification. At present, there are no laws and regulations restricting the use and emission of NPE in production in China. There is also no scientific evidence to prove that NPE will enter the human body through human skin. Its main hazard is that it will degrade into more toxic environmental hormone, namely nonylphenol, when entering the aquatic environment sewage disposal There is no way to dispose of these substances, so they will all be discharged into the environment, and eventually threaten our human health again through the food chain.

China Environmental Science also pointed out that some countries and regions have banned the use of NPE for 20 years due to concerns about its safety. The European Union has issued regulations in 2005 to prohibit the use of NPE and NP in the textile production industry. At the beginning of this year, the Chinese government also added NPE and NP to the Catalogue of Toxic Chemicals with Strict Import and Export Restrictions in China. However, until today, China has not formulated the relevant use and emission standards.
